First Responders Appreciation Day set for Saturday, July 11th

In appreciation to all the First Responders for the tireless work they do, a First Responders Appreciation Day will be held on the Nina Desaire farm located at 3884 P Road (3/4 of a mile off of Highway 18) in Damar, Kansas. (Look for the balloons and streamers at the turnoff.) The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a meal and drinks to be served throughout the day. There will be pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, garden fresh macaroni salad, pork and beans, chips, watermelon, water, tea, coffee and lemonade. Also, there will be games and fun for the entire family! So come early and stay late, or drop by for a few minutes and thank our heroes!

Trial date set in Plainville Livestock check-kiting case

A trial date has been set for a couple that has been charged in a check-kiting scheme that allegedly cost banks millions of dollars.

Tyler Gillum and his wife, Camden Gillum, were charged in May 2019 in federal court with carrying out a check-kiting scheme.

Ranchers who sold cattle at two sales at the now-bankrupt Plainville Livestock Commission waited almost 10 months for payment while the financial fallout from the company's bankruptcy was sorted out.
